Little did I know that the semester would end with me taking zoom ballet in my living room back in Dallas. Even though this change was beyond unexpected, it has allowed me to focus on other things that didn’t always come first in my life in Austin. Over the past few weeks, I’ve gotten to spend some much-needed time with family, which also comes with eating some amazing home cooked meals. That also means getting to hang out with my dogs that I've missed so so much!
Being home, I’ve also been able to return to my sketchbook, something that usually gets neglected during a regular semester. I love drawing people because it lets me see things with a different set of eyes and helps me appreciate the little details of life. I’m currently drawing my best friend who I miss with my whole heart. Continuing to develop my creativity outside of my usual practices, I'm collaborating with my friend Tanner, a theater major at UT, to create a one man musical. Even if these times are different and crazy, I’m thankful for the time it has created to work on things that I might never have gotten around to in my normal busy life.
I’ve also been able to watch some amazing dance works online thanks to the dance community’s incredible response to social distancing. So many works have been uploaded for dancers all around the world to watch in addition to the online classes that have exploded in the past few weeks. Small plug for Crystal Pite's work, my current favorite to watch, which you can find on sites like ontheboards.TV and Marquee.TV. Take this time to do what you truly feel excited to do, even if that’s not dance, and continue to explore the many aspects of your creativity.
