Hi everyone! My name is Kayla White and I am currently serving as one of your Co-Presidents alongside my girl, Taylor Schmuelgen.

This summer I have been busy dancing and keeping up a long distance relationship with my cat. I spent June doing the Summer Study program at Gibney in New York with one of my favorite humans, Mackenzie Lawrence (one of DA’s media coordinators!!)! Some of my favorite teachers that I got to take class from during that time were Maleek Washington, Wesley Ensminger, and Joy Davis. We also had the opportunity to see several performances and my favorites by far was 2nd Best Dance’s “RED” and Ailey’s premiere of Rennie Harris’ “Lazarus”.

This month I have been in Los Angeles studying at BODYTRAFFIC’s summer intensive. I’ve had the opportunity to learn rep material from the TL Collective, Hofesh Schecter Company, WeWolf, BODYTRAFFIC, Sasha Waltz, and Pina Bausch. My favorite part of this experience so far has been working in a creative process to create a new work with Micaela Taylor of the TL Collective. Next week I will be traveling to Houston to create a new work as an emerging choreographer for Wanderlust Dance Project! I’m super excited to get to work with the dancers and create something together and then get to present my work alongside seasoned professionals!

When I’m not dancing I’ve been spending my time visiting the beach, watching The Bachelorette, eating ice cream in bed, buying too many books, and asking my sister to send me pictures of my cat.

I’m so excited to see you all in the fall and get to dance actioning!!! In the meantime, please feel free to send me pictures of your cats (or dogs) to get me through my final 19 days of being away from my child.
