Hi! My name is Sarah Wales, and I am super excited to be on the internal relations team for Dance Action! I am a sophomore dance and exercise science double major from Coppell, Texas.
This summer has been very different from those in the past. I decided to take a little break from technique (and dance in general for a little). In addition to Dance Action, I am also in an org at UT called Christian Students on Campus (CSOC). During the month of June, I interned with CSOC where I met incoming freshman at their orientations. I had a complete blast just immersing myself in my faith with all of my beautiful friends. It was refreshing to take a break from dance and focus on Christ.
After the month I spent volunteering in Austin, I got the opportunity to go to Misfit Dance Camp, which is a week of intense hip hop training in Houston from a ton of choreographers from LA. That week was incredible as I got to meet some of the most amazing people (and INSANE dancers) and train in a style that often gets neglected during the year. I absolutely love hip hop and I’m thankful that I got to take time to focus on that kind of movement this summer. Since Misfits, I have been taking a lot of hip hop classes back in Dallas and have gotten to really connect with this community here.
In July, I got to visit my brother in Seattle with my family. We got to go sight-seeing with my adorable little niece. I have loved getting to spend time with my family! It has been really nice to have a summer where I get to do things other than what I focus on during the year, even though I do love it. Now back in Dallas, I look forward to going to Justin Giles’ SoulEscape next week and Madison Hicks’ Moving Forward in August to focus on more technical training.
My goal for the summer was balance, and I am beyond thankful that I was able to experience so many different things that I can take with me this upcoming year at UT. I’ve loved reading about everyone’s summer, and I can’t wait to see everyone in the Fall!
