Hey y’all, it’s me Myrah!
My full name is Myrah Chanelle Porter, but most folks at UT call me Myrah Chanelle! I am a BFA Dance Major and Health professions minor, and I am the 2019-2020 Dance Action Event Coordinator!!(can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooked up for you!!!)This summer, I’m taking some time off from dance to vacation and spend time at home! I spent all last summer in Austin, so I felt I needed to make up for it. I’m currently working at Houston’s First Baptist Church at their summer camp called Camp Dunamai! It’s a Christian camp for kids ages 6-14. It keeps me busy, and I have FULL access to a state of the art workout room and fitness classes! It’s the best thing ever! I get to talk to kids about God, and what it means to be a Christian; especially in today’s society. I consider myself to be a quite liberal Christian, so I always make it a point to be sure and let the kids know that no matter how people choose to live their lives, or what their beliefs are, you have to respect everyone. Being the black mom that I am, it’s really resonating with them and they LOVE it! Something about being with the kids everyday, brings joy to my heart! Not too long ago, I won Staffer of the Week, BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!! I get to work with my older brother and one of my best friends, so I truly am having the time of my life! I also don’t really have a church home in Austin, so it’s good to be back and fellowshipping everyday. An old friend of mine from high school threw a birthday party for her pups, and that was super exciting! It’s been great seeing all of my home friends, catching up with them, and just having a good time. I’m of course also taking some time to vacation this summer. I just recently went to Las Vegas with my girlfriends—it was TRULY the best time of our lives; we were really living hahah!! I’m leaving for Hawaii this Wednesday to go on vacation with my family, and I can’t wait for that to happen!! Ready to chill at the beach under the Hawaiian sun, and sip drinks from pineapples! Being home, I’ve also gotten to spend so much more time with my little sisters and it’s been loads of fun, I miss them a lot when I’m away at school, they’re growing up on me and I want to be there for them as much as I can. I took them to Austin a few weeks ago, they LOVED it, especially the scooters! I almost forgot, my mom celebrated her birthday, and my brother turns 25 next week! It’s been a busy summer so far, but that’s about it! I’m super stoked for the rest of the summer, and I can’t wait to see you all so very soon in the fall!!
