My name is Emily Tolson, and I am a fourth year BFA Dance major at the University of Texas at Austin. This year I have the privilege of serving as production coordinator of Dance Action alongside Georgina Garza. This summer I took a roadtrip to Durham, North Carolina with UT alumni Ginnifer Joe and Mario Ramirez to attend the American Dance Festival at Duke University. There we met alumni Becky Nam and one of our media coordinators, Addie Norman.
My daily schedule involves a multitude of classes including Counter-Technique, Gaga, repertory workshops as well as drop-in classes. It is only week one and I have gotten to take from a multitude of inspiring people like the Urban Bush Women and our very own Charles Anderson. Alongside dance classes are daily group discussions on a variety of topics including solidarity in dance, working in the professional world, creating work as artist citizens and so much more! I am also involved in the process of creating a new work for the Student Concert. When I am not in classes, I can be found exploring Duke campus, trapesing through the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, or playing with my Airbnb lady’s cats.
